The International Association of Software Architects (IASA) is the premier association focused on the architecture profession through the advancement of best practices and education while delivering programs and services to IT architects of all levels around the world.
A special two day conference event sponsored by Sun Microsystems and hosted by the IASA is planned in Dallas for November 6th and 7th, 2008. Michelle Naquin, CEO and co-founder of the Green Technology Alliance (GTA) will be presenting on the challenges and opportunities in greening your IT Architecture.
The primary function of the Architect regardless of role is to bridge knowledge from disparate parts into one whole. Nothing is more true or relevant when building green, clean and sustainable IT. In fact, the IT architect is THE critical component for success, whether you build software or a customer’s infrastructure. Bottom line, success will require the bridging skills of the architect to transform the challenges of sustainability into opportunity.
Become part of the solution and learn how to ensure your organization’s green initiatives are successful. Learn how to engage your bridging skills to address the unique and amplified challenges of the green sector. This session will arm you with an understanding of the 5 key challenges to going green. More importantly, armed with that knowledge and your skills will help you build the bridges to help your company and customers Go Green Now!
The primary mission of the Green Technology Alliance (GTA) (www.greentechnologyalliance.org) is to accelerate the adoption of green, clean and sustainable business practices, technologies and solutions. The Green Technology Alliance (GTA) is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations gain the necessary knowledge to understand the products, tools, methodologies and services that can help you better conserve resources, reduce costs, improve efficiencies and ultimately improve the bottom line.
Since 2006, the founders of the GTA have been developing and supporting an alliance of companies in the green, clean and sustainable space. In early 2008, the GTA was launched to provide the support, resources and venues that build and grow both existing technologies and emerging technologies in the Green, Clean and Sustainability space. Simply put: The GTA helps build businesses that are green, sustainable and contribute to the economy.

Microsoft, IBM and the Green Technology Alliance (GTA) are proud to co-sponsor this special GTA Green IT mini-conference. Sessions include an overview of the value of optimizing your datacenter, greening your IT infrastructure, case studies in optimized datacenters, and real world strategies for going green… from you!
Any organization with a server, email and the need to store data is a datacenter…
The fact is that datacenters consume an incredible amount of power, according to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, data centers alone in 2000 used an estimated 12 billion kilowatt hours of electrical power which more than doubled to 23 billion in 2005. That rapid and accelerating power consumption means even a small change could have a huge impact.
The energy consumption of servers and data centers has doubled in the past five years and is expected to almost double again in the next five years, to more than 100 billion kWh, costing about $7.4 billion annually. Existing green IT technologies and strategies could reduce typical server energy use by an estimated 25%, with even greater energy savings possible with advanced technologies.
So what can you do?
Optimize your systems and storage.
Data is at the heart of the datacenter. There are new technologies and systems that not only cost less but are multiple factors more efficient. Additionally, you can reduce archaic and redundant information or software that’s only needed some of the time if at all for a huge impact. How can outsourcing provide a solution for archival information. From consolidation to power management to redesign of the floor plan there are many opportunities to green your datacenter. Our panel of industry experts will offer best practices that can help you make over your datacenter and go from red to green.
Gartner estimates that power and cooling costs are upwards of 40% of an IT departments operating budget, and that 85% of datacenters are currently running out of power and/or space.
Special Event Notice:
Over the last several months and as a result of all the great solutions and knowledge out there we have learned about we have decided to open up this mini-conference to YOU! For the first time in a GTA event we are including in our conference a round table discussion! The topic… A Solutions Round Table: Green Technologies and Processes That Deliver Value.
